Remembering Seven

memory encaustic pet portrait of Seven

Today is 7 years since we adopted our little girl Seven. It’s been 3 years since she became very sick and landed in the emergency with acute kidney failure. Out of the blue. At only 4 years old. She survived and fought hard for two and a half months, but ultimately was not able to recover. She inspired me to start my pet photography portrait studio - to help other people who absolutely love their pets like family to have a way of preserving the beautiful memories forever. We never have enough time with them on Earth.

Molly’s portrait was made from a cell phone photo.

Often times when I exhibit my pet portraits in public events, I have people come up and say “I wish I had done this with my pet before they passed!” We can’t go back in time, but we can do the next best thing! I create my signature encaustic portrait art using old photos of my clients’ pets. I help them choose the best photograph to use, I carefully retouch and enhance it to turn it into a printable image, and then I make the encaustic wall art in my workshop. The portrait is printed on museum quality archival cotton rag paper, mounted carefully to a wood panel, and finished by melting and fusing beeswax and damar resin to the surface. The result is a one of a kind piece that is preserved for many years to come, ready to hang on the wall and bring that daily reminder of the love and happiness that your pet brought you.

To celebrate Seven’s memory, I want to give away one of these artworks to one of you in an 8”x10” size (a $250 value!). There are two ways to enter:

  1. If you use Facebook, follow my FB page and comment on the relevant post with a story about your beloved pet that was lost too soon and include your favourite photo of them. You can enter more than one pet.

  2. If you use Instagram - follow my IG and send an e-mail to info@radinaphotography.com telling me about them and attach a photo. Good luck!
